Vyrus Technology


Engine

The current block is based on a late model Ducati ST2 engine to allow us to enter the Thunderbike UK championship. This series has a strict power to weight ratio in an attempt to make bikes of varying power equal. As the Vyrus is being tested for it handling prowess, outright power is not our main concern, and we have picked a bike with tractability, and reliability. However even then the ST2 is a little underpowered for the task so a 20% boost has been given through selective Alto tuning modifications, and many key parts replaced to make continuous high rev activity possible with as few rebuilds as possible.

  • 944cc water cooled 90degree V-Twin
  • Ported and gas flowed head and intake manifolds
  • Larger bore carbs using uprated injectors with a better spray pattern
  • Bespoke high compression pistons
  • Replacement conrods
  • Oerlikon Balzer DLC coated cams, desmodromics, gudgeon pins, valves, and gearbox
  • Champion race spark plug
  • Aluminium flywheel
  • Sigma slipper clutch
  • Ultra close ratio gearbox
  • Electric water pump, pumping through SFS silicon hoses to Docking Engineering built twin radiators.
  • High pressure fuel pump.
  • Oversized airbox with a completely straight, and wide, intake path from the point of peak pressure .

Chassis

  • Nitron titanium spring shocks front and rear with high and low speed damping.
  • Double omega design frame
  • Swinging arms moulded from 1mm aluminium plate
  • Progressive action front shock, Direct link rear.
  • Steering angle adjustable from 18° to 24° in seconds
  • Trail adjustable from 80mm to 105mm in seconds
  • 1375mm wheelbase, always.
  • Dymag bespoke carbon fiber 5 spoke wheels front and back
  • Braking forces directed horizontally onto the frame
  • 2 linkage steering system
  • EBC 320mm fully floating X-Type disks
  • Goodridge kevlar braided hydraulic brake lines joined to the calipers through Staubli quick release bayonet connectors.
  • Lightweight carbon-fibre race bodywork by Slipstream Carbon
  • One off Alto Performance rear set foot pegs
  • 520 race chain, down from 525, running on ultra lightweight Talon sprockets
  • Hyperbolt titanium and alloy bolts and fixtures
  • Bespoke double bubble screen by Powerbronze
  • One off titanium headers and silencers manufactured by Beowolf

Electronics

  • Magneti-Marelli MAR600 fully programmable ECU
  • One off hand built wiring harness split at key points using Deutsch high density Autosport Connectors to allow the entire front of the bike to be removed in seconds as a single unit.
  • Aerospace grade wire and fittings, used for weight saving and strength.The use of this wire can save 1lbs in weight.
  • 2Khz logger with CAN connection to log up to 100 ECU channels at 200Hz., as well 20 other loggable external digital or analogue channels.
  • Motec Wide Band O2 sensor (using a NGK 6 wire exhaust sensor)
  • Magnetti-Marelli MT940 LCD dashboard with completely programmable 3 page display.
  • 2 Channel Knock Sensor
  • Travel sensors by Variohm on the front and rear shock, pressure sensors on the front and rear brake, infrared tyre temp sensors on 3 points on the rear wheel, and a non-contact angular sensor on the gearbox shaft to determine gear position.
